 Poetry: John Rutherdale

OF MOUNTAIN AND MAN

The force that drives the water through the rocks drives my blood.
This ancient stone influenced my ancestors too.
Granite so grey and impervious
Yet eventually made gentle by the eroding water.
To every action there is a contrast
For, see the valley then the mountain
So, see the rocks and the men.
